Every day many people walk past the Daycare Centre on Lower Road Shankill unaware of all the activities that go on inside its doors.
Yet for many older people this bulding provides a chance to meet their friends and socialise, an opportunity which might otherwise be difficult when they are no longer able to get out and about easily.
Shankill Old Folks Association provides a variety of services and activities: the Daycare Centre, Meals on Wheels, the Wednesday Tea Club, the monthly Book Sale, and is a focus for a range of volunteering opportunities.
Click the links at the top of this page to discover more of what we do and to get involved.
The next Book Sale will take place on Saturday the 1st of June from 10am – 1pm Huge range of books from thrillers, who-dun-its, to poetry and literature, cookery and gardening, travel, biography and current affairs Also a great selection of children’s books. Donations of books can be made on the day. All are welcome. Seasons Greetings to all our colleagues, clients and friends.
On April the 10th the Shankill Day Care Centre held a tea party to celebrate the 100th birthday of its founding member and first Chairperson, Verell Booth. It would be hard to find a person in Shankill whose name is more synonymous with community care than that of Verell who has spent many decades involved in the field. In 1971 the Eastern Health Board decided that Shankill should have an Old Folks Association (SOFA) to host social events and outings for older people. Dun
